Edit text in a screenshot

In a September 2026 tutorial exercise, the heading "Kanban Board" was replaced with "Kandown Board". A smaller heading elsewhere in the screenshot was outside the edit and was left as it was. This archived result used an additional step to retain original pixels outside the edit window; it does not establish that current edits leave a screenshot untouched.

The source screenshot was published by eruvanos in the Kandown demo repository. This was a tutorial exercise, not a customer case or a claim that the project changed its name.

These are common reasons to edit a screenshot instead of recapturing it:

• A renamed product or feature in an old tutorial or help article.
• A short button label or menu item that changed after a redesign.
• A caption or annotation that needs new wording.

Each of these goes more smoothly in some conditions than others:

Editing a screenshot changes the picture only. If you can update the app or page itself and take a new capture, that gives the most faithful interface.

1. Upload the original screenshot. Use a PNG, JPG or WebP up to 10 MB. Keep a copy of the original for comparison.
2. Check the detected text. Zoom in, find the words you want to change, and select their box. Make Original Text (Detected) match the screenshot exactly.
3. Enter the new wording. Type it in New Text (Replacement) and choose ADD. Add every change you need in this screenshot, then check that the Pending List contains only the text you mean to update.
4. Generate. Choose Generate — all queued changes are processed together for 1 credit.
5. Check and save. Review the result with the checklist on this page, then choose the version you want and Download. Sign in if prompted.

• Spelling: read the new words letter by letter at 100% zoom.
• Alignment: compare the baseline and left edge with neighboring text.
• Controls: make sure button outlines, dividers and input borders are intact.
• Icons: check icons next to the edited text and in the same row.
• Small text: look over captions, table cells and labels you didn't edit.
• Whole image: compare the full screenshot with the original, not just the edited area.

What if the new name is longer than the old one? Longer wording may be resized or re-spaced to fit, wrap onto another line or crowd nearby controls. A name close to the original length needs less space adjustment. If the new wording is much longer and you can edit the app itself, update the source interface and take a new screenshot.

Can it edit very small text? Small captions and dense table cells are harder to read and to redraw. Use the sharpest capture you have — enlarging a blurry screenshot doesn't restore missing letters — and check small text closely in the result.

What if the result isn't right? Check the selected regions and original and replacement text. If the inputs are correct but the output is wrong, use an available retry within the same task at no extra credit cost. Attempts are limited. Changing the wording or selected areas requires a new task, whose generation uses another credit.
